* The fact a movie with such a silly premise did well enough to get a 2018 sequel is an incredible feat. And it will be awesome for Peyton to get his chance to direct an Ant-Man movie that's 100% his vision rather than just being known as the guy that salvaged what Edgar Wright left behind.

* Also, the film received some more early flak from fans who were less than pleased at the announcement that it would be Scott Lang and not Hank Pym being the main character, the latter instead being relegated to a LegacyCharacter and aged mentor of Scott's. In the film itself however, he has a WAY stronger presence than anticipated with his heroism not only on display in flashbacks and in-universe reel footage as the original Ant-Man, but even in his so-called retirement as he not only masterminds the whole venture but pulls a few awesome stunts with his tech as well (see above). Combine that with a compelling character arc involving him coming to terms with his past and you almost cant tell he's not the main.

* The effects to de-age Creator/MichaelDouglas to how he looked in the 1980s might be the best seen on film. A far cry from the de-aged Creator/PatrickStewart from the X-Men films, or Creator/JeffBridges in ''Film/TronLegacy''.

Martin Donovan was also de-aged and Creator/HayleyAtwell was aged up using similar effects as well (although Atwell did wear some old-age makeup) and the CGI in all three instances was near-unnoticeable. Giving some long-needed credit to the rest of Scott\'s heist crew.

* For what looks just like mere comic relief, much credit must be given to Luis' fellow partners-in-crime, Dave and Kurt, when they show their chops during the final heist. [[spoiler:When Paxton and Gale show up unexpectedly and nearly jeopardize the heist by arresting Hank, Dave spots them early using his knowledge of cop vehicles and saves Hank by hijacking their car to distract them. Not only that, when they accidentally draw the cops' ire, the two of them manage to evade them long enough for Kurt to save Scott's behind when he nearly gets fried by a laser trap!]]

* A meta one for Peyton Reed, who was tasked with taking over after Creator/EdgarWright left. Considering he was coming in as production was put on hold as Adam [=McCay=] and Paul Rudd were doing extensive rewrites with significant input from the rest of the cast, one can imagine that there would be difficulties, but (barring one person complaining that there was greenscreen in most of the re-shot scenes) it seems as if Reed pulled the whole thing off ''without a hitch'' despite having only a fraction of the prep-time most other directors of superhero movies have.

* Normally, a lead actor taking creative control of a script is a sure sign of WagTheDirector and can garner mixed results (see Edward Norton's control over ''Film/TheIncredibleHulk'' for an example of how things can go wrong). But Paul Rudd, with Adam [=McCay=], managed to do a significant rewrite of Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish's screenplay with lots of input from the rest of the cast, expanding many roles and fully incorporating the film into the MCU, to good reviews and box office results.

* The film got a lot of flak early on for having what seemed like a ''really'' stupid premise, since on paper shrinking and speaking to insects doesn't look all that impressive compared to other super-powered individuals in the MarvelCinematicUniverse. And then the film shows you precisely how cool fights can be even when you're ant-sized, just what you can do when you control ants, or all the awesome things that can be done with shrinking technology in the right hands - and the awful things that happen with it in the wrong ones...

** The effects to de-age Michael Douglas to how he was in the 1980s might be the best seen on film. A far cry from the de-aged Patrick Stewart from the X-Men films, or Jeff Bridges in Film/TronLegacy.

!!For the 2015 Film:
* Hank kicking Carson's butt in the 1989 prologue. A harmless scientist he is not. BadassBookworm he is.
** Repeated again when Hank punches a smug Cross in the face. Cross reveals he knew the punch was coming, but didn't expect Hank to hit so hard.

* The end of the TrainingMontage where Scott runs with the ants before taking the lead and getting ahead while they follow really shows that he has become part of an amazing world.
* Scott can grow so small that most people have a hard time spotting him, let alone hit him. [[spoiler:Falcon]] still manages to knock him around for most of their fight.
** Scott's end of that fight is a moment of awesome for himself. [[spoiler: This is a guy who is still limited to the use of the suit, and is his first real operation with using it. Instead of turning around when discovering that the factory is not an abandoned Stark Industries district but something being used by the Avengers, he powers on. During his fight with Sam Wilson, he holds his own incredibly well and infiltrates his wings to stop them from working as well as the enhanced visors Falcon used to track where he is, all while succeeding and getting the device that his original objective said to achieve.]]

to:

* Scott breaking into 'some old rich guy's house' sets up how excellent his burglary and improvising skills are. The first hitch is a lock that requires a finger print, so he makes a resin impression from a doorknob and gets by that. The second hitch is trickier: a thick steel door, so he resorts to using ice to make the door explode. Hank wasn't kidding about finding the right guy.

* Scott [[spoiler:escaping subatomic space.]]

* "It was never just a heist!" Cue the destruction of [[spoiler:the Pym Technologies]] building. At first, it just looks like StuffBlowingUp, but then you realize [[spoiler:the building is not exploding, it's ''imploding'']]!
** It gets better. [[spoiler: Isn't that some of the tech from Agent Carter?]]
