The fourth anime series in the ''{{Digimon}}'' franchise, following ''DigimonTamers'', and the complete antithesis of its predecessor - it is [[LighterAndSofter light-hearted, fun and sometimes childish]], as opposed to... [[DarkerAndEdgier well]], ''[[{{Deconstruction}} Digimon]] [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel Tamers]]''.

** Comes up again in episode 16 where the team needs to chase some toucanmon who have flown to an island surrounded by whirlpools. They openly state that their plan to reach the island is to find a flying digimon to go over the whirlpools, but no one ever thinks of Kazemon

* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler:Par for course, though has to be the least bitter ending of the bunch, as the heroes don't have Digimon partners to have torn from them. They still have to leave the Digital World and all their friends there behind, however.]] They actually ''do'' have Digimon partners. Cue the waterworks.

* AntiVillain: Arbormon.

* AlternativeForeignThemeSong: The English dub uses a completely new theme song, different from the Japanese version but also different from the rap song that it used for the previous seasons.

** Ironically enough, in Japanese episode 34 Blitzmon says "Lightning Topper" while using "Golden Thunder."

*** Takuya is an obvious Tai expy, and his evolutions bear many striking similarities to Greymon, including [=EmperorGreymon=], who is basically a [=WarGreymon=] on roids.
*** Kouji is an expy of Matt, and his evolutions likewise resemble Garurumon's (especially Garmmon/[=KendoGarurumon=]).

*** Tommy/Tomoki is an expy of TK, although his evolutions are closer to resembling Gomamon's.
*** JP/Junpei is a mix of Izzy and Joe, or at least sort of. His evolutions are similar to the Kabuterimon line.

*** and finally, [[spoiler:Susanoomon is an obvious Omnimon expy]].

*** Koji is an expy of Matt, and his evolutions likewise resemble Garurumon's (especially Garmmon/[=KendoGarurumon=]).

* FauxActionGirl: Zoe. She loses her ''first fight'' as Fairymon and circumstances don't get much better for her afterwards. The only enemy she defeats by herself his her ArchEnemy, DarkActionGirl Ranamon, in a DesignatedGirlFight and even ''that's'' somewhat hard to buy. And of course she's OvershadowedByAwesome by Takuya and Koji, [[SpotlightStealingSquad but then again]], [[OutOfFocus isn't everyone?]]

* OutOfFocus / OvershadowedByAwesome: ''Everyone'' who isn't Takuya and Koji in the final arc of the series. [[spoiler: Even the previously important Kouichi can do nothing but a HeroicSacrifice that gives ''them'' a power-up needed to fight the BigBad!]]

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The first character design sketches released in ''V-Jump'' showed some of the characters with different color schemes. Additionally, Koji was originally going to sport long, black slacks instead of the grey capri sweatpants he eventually dons in the show. One of the [[AllThereInTheManual fanbooks]] reports that Koji was originally going to be a female character.

* FauxActionGirl: Zoe. She loses her ''first fight'' as Fairymon and circumstances don't get much better for her afterwards. The only enemy she defeats by herself his her ArchEnemy, DarkActionGirl Ranamon in a DesignatedGirlFight and even ''that's'' somewhat hard to buy. * AccidentalPervert: J.P. in "A Molehill Out of a Mountain". He does the "ladies first" bit, forgetting that Zoey is wearing a skirt. Cue ArmorPiercingSlap.

* [[GoneSwimmingClothesStolen Gone Swimming, D-Tectors Stolen]]: This befalls almost everyone in episode 14. Zoey is spared, in no small part because she used a separate dressing room.

* LuminescentBlush: Various, particularly Takuya, Zoey, and J.P.

* SailorEarth: Most of the time, they are created to either fill in the roles of the keepers of the remaining four spirits, or give the series more girls so Zoey isn't alone.

* ShipTease: Takuya/Zoey, Kouji/Zoey, and J.P./Zoey all had their moments. Takuya/Zoey arguably had the most consistent amount.

* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Zoey is the only girl amongst a squad of guys. Ranamon is her [[ThePsychoRangers Psycho Ranger]] counterpart. The other four kids also have only one girl member.

* DesignatedGirlFight: Zoey and Ranamon.

*** JP/Junpei is a mix of Koushiro and Joe, or at least sort of. His evolutions are similar to the Kabuterimon line.

** [[spoiler:Lucemon against [=EmperorGreymon=] and [=MagnaGarurumon=], they don't have a chance. Every time Susanoomon shows up however, Lucemon is the one that gets pwned very badly, usually by 1 single attack on each form (the final form has 2 separate digimon, so two attacks there).]]

* [[GoneSwimmingClothesStolen Gone Swimming, D-Tectors Stolen]]: This befalls almost everyone in episode 14. Zoey is spared, in no small part because she used a seperate dressing room.

This series could be summarized as ''"A {{Sentai}} series about five kids with various problems who are TrappedInAnotherWorld, become TrueCompanions and SaveBothWorlds while overcoming said problems"''.

* BookEnds: Though it didn't end up being the last season, Frontier appeared to be for a while. In the last episode, Susanoomon declares "AND SO, IT ENDS!" just before dealing the final blow, which parallels the dub name for the first episode of ''DigimonAdventure''. Furthermore, the last shot of the episode has the caption "The End", rather than "To Be Continued" as it had for all the episodes of the show's US run.

** The main characters also bear notable similarities to the Adventure cast.

*** Takuya is an obvious Tai/Taichi expy, and his evolutions bear many striking similarities to Greymon, including [=EmperorGreymon=], who is basically a [=WarGreymon=] on roids.
*** Koji is an expy of Matt/Yamato, and his evolutions likewise resemble Garurumon's (especially Garmmon/[=KendoGarurumon=]).

*** Tommy/Tomoki is an expy of TK/Takeru, although his evolutions far more resemble Gomamon's.
*** JP/Junpei is a mix of Izzy and Joe, or at least sort of. His evolutions are similar to the Kabuterimon line.
*** Koichi is pretty similar to Ken (making him to only throwback to someone out of the original adventure) and his evolutions are similar to [[SacrificialLion Leomon]].
*** and finally, [[spoiler:Susanoomon is an obvious Omegamon/Omnimon expy]].

* FauxAffablyEvil: Icedevimon chats enthusiastically with his victims, to the point where you wonder if he's ObliviouslyEvil or ObfuscatingInsanity.

** TheChick: Zoey

* ForgotICouldFly: Zoey in "A Molehill Out of a Mountain". She's as scared of falling as any of the others, when she ''could'' just turn into [[WingedHumanoid Kazemon]] and fly up.

* FranchiseKiller: It's widely perceived as such, considered to be a result of the fundamental change in basic concept. The fact that there was no new ''Digimon'' anime [[DigimonSavers until 2006]] doesn't help this perception (somehow people never count ''DigimonXEvolution''). In practice, given that ''Digimon'' is [[DigimonXrosWars still alive today and doing better than it has in a while]], it's sort of... [[AvertedTrope not]].

* GenderBender: In TheMovie, the male Beast Digimon Hippogriffomon can [[StanceSystem slide evolve]] to the female Human Digimon D-Arcmon. His true form is Murmukusmon (male), who [[VoiceOfTheLegion speaks with both their voices]] at first.

Takuya Kanbara is an average kid who one day gets a text message from an unknown source telling him to board a train toward his destiny. After a series of [[HilarityEnsues interesting events]], he finally makes it to the train and finds himself transported to the digital world along with [[FiveManBand a couple of other kids]]. They are chosen to become the legendary warriors, which means they transform into different digimons, so that they can save the digital world [[SaveBothWorlds (and eventually the real world aswell)]].

After the series ended, [[FranchiseKiller it created a 4 years gap]] [[hottip: *: unless you count the OVAs]], until 2006 brought us ''DigimonSavers''.

* {{Kiai}}: Dear ''god'', ''Frontier'' loved it. ''Everything'' involved shitloads of yelling, especially later forms of Spirit Evolution (giving the impression that the process was in fact quite painful). It got to the point where so much yelling was required that MichaelReisz (Takuya) point-blank refused to voice [=EmperorGreymon=] for fear of permanently damaging his voice; DaveWittenberg instead filled in there.

* [=~Everything's Better With Spinning~=]: Vritramon, Shutumon, Bolgmon, Calmaramon, Gigasmon, Arbormon, and Sakkakumon all have attacks with spinning.

* [=~She's A Man In Japan~=]: CampGay [=LordKnightmon=] became the dub's female Crusadermon.
