** As Retsuko's mother tells her, while trying to make some matchmaking, the men she shows her aren't just pieces of sushi in a conveyor belt that she gets to pick or turn down, they also get a say in it. Retsuko realizes this when she is turned down by one of those men.

* HiddenDepths: A major theme of the show is that people are rarely who they appear to be at first glance. To that end, nearly every character has hidden depths to them in some way:

* OfficeGolf: Ton spends most of his work days doing this.

** Relationships require maintenance and communication on ''both'' sides in order for the relationship to succeed. A relationship that's all give and no take isn't one that can last in the long run. [[spoiler: Resasuke's inability to understand how he's wearing Retstuko down is what ultimately destroys the relationship.]]

* SherlockScan: Fenneko has an unerring ability to do this, as she demonstrates several times, briefly [[LampshadeHanging sporting a deerstalker cap]].

A ChristmasSpecial titled ''"We Wish You a Metal Christmas"'' was released on December 20, 2018, [[ImmediateSequel and takes place right after season 1.]] The official Aggretsuko twitter page confirmed a second season for the [[Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem TBS]] x Creator/{{Netflix}} series, and was released on June 14, 2019.

This is where it gets a bit interesting. There are two series' with the ''Aggressive Retsuko'' name; one made by the Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem, and the second is a collaborative effort between [[Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem TBS]] and Creator/{{Netflix}}, but both have similar premises:

The [[Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem TBS]] series was a series of 100 self-contained one-minute episodes (except the first episode, which was 30 seconds longer) that was broadcast on the as a segment of the variety show ''Ō-sama no Brunch'', starting in 2016, and ended in March 2018. The shorts focused more on the frustrations of random situations that Retsuko ended up in, such as being asked to pick up the bill at a friend meet up.

The collaborative [[Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem TBS]] x Creator/{{Netflix}} series, a ten-episode season that released in 2018 is different from the shorts as it has more a focus on Retsuko pushing through bigger societal problems, such as dealing with horrible bosses, and the problems of falling straight into love. The episodes are also longer (around 15 minutes) and follow a new continuity compared to the original series. Adaptation tropes do apply to this series.

So much that the poor guy spends most of the last episode utterly depressed Retsuko does infact have a boyfriend/ But he does finally confesses his feelings to her at the end ''(but is turned down)''. ** Outside of work: Retsuko's the beauty since the series starts focusing on her marrying to get out of her terrible job and she's generally cute. Washimi's the brains with the most influence within the company and best at keeping herself together under pressure. And Gori's the brawn [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg ...by virtue of being a gorilla]].
** At work: Retsuko's the beauty for much the same reason as above. Fenneko's the brains with her SherlockScan ability and her manipulative streaks. And Haida's the brawn ...by virtue of being a hyena and thus twice as tall as the others.

* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Retsuko's the beauty since the series starts focusing on her marrying to get out of her terrible job and she's generally cute. Washimi's the brains with the most influence within the company and best at keeping herself together under pressure. And Gori's the brawn [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg ...by virtue of being a gorilla]].

* TheGenericGuy: Even after Resasuke becomes a major character, this is still his personality, which ''does'' factor into the plot.

* UnreliableNarrator: As the series begins, Retsuko is shown in positive light as the [[OnlySaneMan only reliable employee around the company]]. Ton is shown as lazy, demanding a vacation. As we come to the end however, her competence is called into question as she lashes [[TranquilFury out at colleagues]] letting her rage get the better of her. When the company gets an impossible deadline, Ton's clearly working his socks off to keep the company from going under, whereas Retsuko is daydreaming most of the day away.
** [[spoiler:Played with. Once Ton snaps Retsuko out of her daydreaming over Resasuke, Retsuko is a hard worker and one of the few to have stayed overnight at the office.]]

* BunnyEarsLawyer:
** The yoga instructor, who at first seems like a DumbMuscle protein junkie, is actually a very enlightened and effective teacher. Gori points out that his students (including herself) get very good results from his class.
** Ton is one. Spends most of his time either complaining that he deserves a vacation he isn't getting or making overtly sexist or demeaning remarks, but buckles down enough when three members are gone - with a little extra put in from Retsuko - to cover for ''all'' of them to make a deadline.

* WeWantOurJerkBack: When Ton tries to be nicer and happier around the office, it comes off as creepy and the staff abhor him more than ever.
