Removed Naru and Keitaro as an example since the arguing there tends to be pretty one-sided.

Andyzero: And I'm putting them back. I've seen people comment before that the violence is a turn off. Like I said in the statement, it depends on how seriously one takes the "funny violence." And Keitaro's passive-aggressive behavior faults has been criticized as well, his refusal to change habits that lead to "accidents" would amount to sexual harassment in the real world.

Ununnilium: If we were just talking about the manga, I'd take it out again. But the anime version, due to Character Exaggeration and shortening, counts.

osh: All the examples so far are of characters who both treat each other harshly. No matter how demanding or pushy Naru is, Keitaro never does that. It may make her a bully, but it doesn't make the couple a Masochism Tango.

Ununnilium: SLARBLHARBDN. Took out:

A partial subversion is the fact that Naru vehimently denies having feelings for Keitaro until the last episode of the miniseries, despite having fooled no one.

This is not a subversion, it's part of the trope. This is why I went on that crusade in the first place.

Phartman: I'd always referred to songs like this as being of the "I hate you, now let's f***!" genre. It's not as catchy, but at least it's monosyllabic.

Cosmetor: I removed the alleged real life example. This trope has nothing to do with actual masochists; it's about couples who actually seem to hate each other.

Bob: My best friend always seems to be screaming at me (or the other way around). We ARE best friends, though. Does it count?

Doyle: took out:

  • How are Dr. Cox and Jordan from Scrubs not mentioned already?

Because they are mentioned, four or five examples up from that one.

Removed Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. They might not have gotten on well initially as Peter was trying to force Harriet to love him and she refused to be pushed. But once they worked things out and got together (=married) they got on incredibly well.
Madrugada: removed David Eddings example: "* Most of the romantic relationships in David Edding's stories are like this. Doesn't help that almost all of his girls are Tsunderes." Most of his couples are not like this at all (Garion and C'Nedra are the only ones who come close, and they fight because she's spoiled and snooty and he's confused. And they're both teenagers.) And most of his girls are not Tsunderes, either. Again, C'nedra is really the only one who fits that description.
