Working Title: And I\'m Racist Too!: From YKTTW

The Wanderer: Removed this bit because some people from the Harry Potter fandom seem to have a hard time getting this, and I'd rather explain it here than in the edit reason space.

  • The Death Eaters were more of an Equal-Opportunity Evil. Zabini Blaise (black) is Draco's best friend, and according to Rowling, the only person at Hogwarts he views as his equal. Dean Thomas' father (both black) was a pureblooded wizard who the Death Eaters attempted to recruit, but killed when he refused to hand over his muggle-born wife and children.

Their color blindness doesn't matter because they still have the Fantastic Racism going on, which is the whole point. If black and white are in perfect harmony because they gang up on green, both black and white still qualify for this trope, no matter how much they pat each other on the back and share drinks while talking about how great it was stomping those damn green bastards. Or how if a Klansman were to have nothing against Asians but went to lynch black people at night, he'd still be a murdering racist. The only way the Death Eaters could actually be anywhere close to Equal-Opportunity Evil is if they were letting Muggles and half-muggles help them kill muggles. The fact that they don't care about black vs white is completely immaterial, what matters is that they want to kill or oppress you if weren't born to magic or your parents weren't.

Nohbody: Not that anyone seems to watch the discussion pages of most tropes, but hope (or perhaps denial) springs eternal.

Anyway, there's a possible example that might fit this trope, but I'm not sure because it doesn't specify a race/species/etc. Namely, from Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, several antagonists, including Paulsen and Tolwyn, make comments along the lines of genetic inferiority. As I said, though, it's aimed at the Border Worlds in general, and not a race, species, or whatnot. Does it still qualify for this trope?

  • The Wanderer: First off, love your name. Secondly, I'm of two minds about it, because that line is one that real life racists always try to use. On the other hand like you say the Borderlands are not by any means a coherent or defined people, just a group of settlers and outlaws from various places within human space. Still, it's clearly meant to evoke and use some of the language and this trope, so while the example is kinda iffy I'd be ok with using it.

    • Nohbody: 1) Thanks. :) 2) Now I just have to come up with a non-retarded way of phrasing the example... :P
