Falterfire: Would the magicians drawing all their power from assorted demons in the Bartimeus trilogy qualify? The demons aren't really familiars since most magicians use several demons of varying power at varying times, and draw all of their power from them.

Keru: I see why the Fate avatars fit here under the current description, but I kinda disagree with the characterization. Pokemon or the Children from Mai-HiME are one thing, but the servants in Fate are much more akin to a magician's familiar (all of the Fate characters with avatars are magicians, to one extent or another, though Shirou is particularly inept). The same would go for the Partners in Shamanic Princess, and the ferrit in Mahou Sensei Negima (the name of which I'm forgetting at the moment), Kero-chan in Cardcaptor Sakura, and others. The various magical animal allies of magical girls, too.

Andyzero: Hmm...I can see where the concept of a "magical familiar" might be similar to Mons, but it's an older concept. They also act more as "support" than the heavy muscle. I agree, there's a lot of overlap, but I don't want to dilute it too much. I'll comment that Fate isn't quite the same thing. I do think it's inspired by the "Summoning" system in RPGs, thus it got a mention.

Keru: Sounds good. When I first saw the entry, I had the same initial thought, after all.

Andyzero: Well now what do I do? I just saw the first episode of Zero No Tsukaima, and the Japanese have turned the "familiar" concept into mons.

Citizen: I don't like the word "mons". Anyone support renaming to Monsters? Otherwise I'll just create a redirect to this.

Lale: They're not just "Monsters." They're combination pet-weapons that work as substitute fighters sometimes with empathy or Synchronization thrown in. I like the name Mons.

Ununnilium: A redirect from Monsters to here would be A Bad Idea. There are a million billion different types of monsters in fiction; this is a single sub-sub-type.

Medinoc: Is Pokethulhu worth mentionning ? After all, the game is supposed to be adapted from an Anime. A nonexistent one, but close enough...

Mister Six: Heheheh, "mons".

Citizen: Heh heh. You said "mons". Hehhehhehhehheh...

DC: Could this be renamed to something not also term for female anatomy maybe?

Ununnilium: Come on. No one is going to associate it with that except the chronically dirty-minded. (Which admittedly many of us are, but.)

Morgan Wick: What isn't potentially a reference to anatomy? (After all, I don't get it.)

Your Obedient Serpent: Heh heh heh. You said "Wick".

Lale: I have no idea what dirty double entendre "mons" is supposed to be. Let it go.

Adam850: If you really want to know, look up "Mound of Venus".

Mister Six: Seriously, the word "mons" is far better known as a biological term than an anime one (seriously, anime fans - the world doesn't revolve around wallscrolls). I vote renaming to "pet monsters" or something. Also adding to YKKTW.

Citizen: Hey. I don't know "mons" as an anime term, either. Monmon.

Big T: Why not just take out the "s"? It doesn't really need to be plural. I'll make a redirect, but since the plural of "mon" is "mon", we might want to consider renaming this trope. Since my rename YKTTWs tend to get ignored, I'll just do it if no one objects here.

(later) Wow! I didn't realize there were so many wicks. I'll move the page, but I may take a bit to fix all the wicks.

Your Obdeient Serpent yanked the reference to the Patronuses (Patroni?) from Harry Potter. They're manifestations of innate power; they aren't really separate personalities, and not really treated as a pet or a companion.

vega: Anyone think "Alien Dice" http://www.aliendice.com/ worth mentioning? Passable subversion of Pokemon, art and grammar usage iffy, but I would buy the t-shirt reading "Behave, or I'll keep you in dice form."

Big T: I signed your post for you. (Just put your name and a colon at the front.) We have a rule around here called There Is No Such Thing As Notability (or TINSTAN for short). Basically, if it exists, we can (and should) mention it. Since you are already familiar with it, you may want to create a page at Alien Dice, as well.

Doktor von Eurotrash: Not sure enough to remove this, but I question the applicability of this trope to the daemons in His Dark Materials. They are physical manifestations of the person's soul, and can protect them or otherwise help them physically, but you just have one (and once you reach puberty, they stop changing shape, further limiting their "use"). You can't acquire others or switch. The word "daemon" is blatantly unrelated to the trope name, and an addition to the HDM entry even points this out.
