From YKTTW Working Title: Hobbes was right.

James- yeesh, whats with the anti-philosophy bent here? There's been a bunch of gross oversimplifications. - First off, Hobbes' premise wasn't that all humans are evil, but that all humans, if they are to follow their own self interest as far as possible, will inevitably come into conflict with eachother, and fast. Therefore, in order to prevent people stabbing eachother, you need to have a authoritarian government to control them. But the KEY point was that one had to 'agree' to it- it was a social contract. - As for Plato, -his- argument was that the best people to rule are those trained to rule.
