First off, the word "awesome" in titles is overused and meaningless. I think the word you are looking for is "energetic". Secondly, I am not sure how common this combo is, particularly in anime, since pretty much every series I can think off the top of my head has this dynamic. I think the reasoning behind such arrangement is that the opening song's function is to rip the viewer out of their default state of mind and to quickly put them into the frame of the narrative with powerful music and colorful visuals, while the ending's purpose is to ease the viewer's transition back into the routine, while also giving them some time to think about what happened in the episode.

If it is, indeed, an OmnipresentTrope in that medium, it would be easier to only list the aversions for it instead.

* ''Anime/{{Noir}}'' is a particularly egregious example: its opening is the rapid-paced, highly-orchestrated and avant-garde "Coppelia no Hitsugi" by Music/AliProject, while its ending is a slow and jovial "Kirei na Kanjo" by Akino Arai, performed seemingly with no arrangement with just her voice and a guitar.
* It is a tradition in the ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'' franchise that the opening song of each season is a fast-paced and powerful pop number performed by Creator/NanaMizuki (voice of Fate Testarossa, the title character's rival-turned-BestFriend), while the ending is a much slower and gentler song by Creator/YukariTamura (voice of Nanoha Takamachi herself). The only exception is ''Anime/VividStrike'', which still follows the same energetic-gentle pattern, but replaced the vocalists with the voices of that season's new lead girls.
