The essence of the difference would be: The Hippie is the one actually in the 60s. There's an implication of wide-eyed idealism, an actual serious social movement (anti-Vietnam War), and...well...it was ''during'' the 60s. This last point is critical because of the "Retro" element in NewAgeRetroHippie trope. That implies that either the character in question lived the 60s and never left them in spirit, or that the character was born long after and is pretending to be the real thing. There's an element of judgment on the "NewAgeRetroHippie": it's not just that this person dresses funny and talks funny and drops acid and smokes a lot of weed, he/she is also...kinda phony. Either that or refuses to grow up. By contrast, an actual 60s hippie is seen (rightly or wrongly) as being more "genuine" or "authentic," to say nothing of more activist and serious about social change (whereas the post-60s NARH is a burnout/bum).
