* In FranchiseStarTrek the nature of the Koybiashi Maru is this in order to comply with it's UnwinnableByDesign. The mission presented to the cadet is to rescue the titular ship. The cadet cannot refuse to rescue the ship, as he was ordered to do so. If he attempts to rescue the crew, he will face hordes of Klingons until he fails the mission. Originally it was designed to fail no matter what, as it was a SecretTestOfCharacter, but Kirk's "cheating" made Starfleet reevaluate the scenario as a creative thinking exercise. Most ways of breaking the simulation include failing in the simulator but use a tactic that would work (i.e. Better understanding of enemy legal traditions will make the mission winable... but the simulator doesn't know that), fail, but make the simulator break reality in order to fail you (i.e. the simulator has to bust out more ships than the entire Klingon Fleet had available at the time), fail, but not getting yourself killed (i.e. blow up the Maru, because it was either working with the enemy to make a trap, or they were not working with the enemy but surely would have been borded and this is a mercy kill) out and out cheat, but justify cheating with ridiculous rules lawyer (i.e. Introduce a new subroutine to lower Klingon defenses. When called on it, argue that the order was to save the crew of the Maru by any means necessary and such an order would perfectly validate warping reality if the captain had the ability to do so and it was the only course of action that would provide the safest possible execution of the order as given.). * MarvelUltimateAlliance concludes by detailing the future outcome based on choices you make in your play through. Most are related to side missions or items not need to complete a level and most BadFutures are prompted by making the clearly wrong choice or not partaking in the sidequest. One however, has Mephisto ask you to literally damn one of two X-Men: Jean Grey or Nightcrawler. You must choose one or the other in order to progress through the game. Choosing Jean Grey will result in a future where the Dark Pheonix awakens, breaks out of the literal hell hole, and goes on to massecre the heroes responsible and promotes tough anti-mutant legislation. Choose Nightcrawler leads to a future where a grieving Mystique infiltrates the X-mansion and kills Professor X in revenge. Tougher Anti-Mutant legislation is passed, in part out of fear of other mutants using their powers in this manner and in part because Xavier was not there to help lead the opposition to the new laws.
