As far as indexes are concerned, may I suggest (in no particular order):

* BetrayalTropes (possibly, especially if the hero reacts to the deception as a betrayal and/or someone close is actually responsible for the non-accident)

* ParentalIssues (perhaps under ParentalAbandonment?)
* CrimeAndPunishmentTropes (maybe, though this one isn't limited to crime and punishment works, often a sinister answer is a crime, i.e. homicide)

You may also consider OlderThanTheyThink (YMMV) and OlderThanFeudalism. IIRC, some of the Greek myths involve this kind of deception practised on a character until they Come of Age and/or can do something about it. I'll crack open my copy of Edith Hamilton's ''Mythology'' and double check, but it seems like Psyche's family was told she was sacrificed to a monster (and so the sisters believed her to be dead) only to learn differently later.
