That he's human. This entire time, the one commanding the army hellbent on taking over all of humanity and eradicating any possible opposition, was itself lead by a member of the race of the people who fought so bitterly against it.

Possibly an ending trope, and most-likely spoilerific simply by mention of a work. One such example comes from Anime/SpiderRiders, in which the leader of the insect people waging a war against humanity, Lord Mantid, was not only human, but also a human from the surface world like Hunter Steele.
