and once more from StevenUniverse: Fusions in general work best when the gems involved are willing and bonded on an emotional level. They are less monstrous, more humanoid-looking, and have fewer personality quirks. If the gems are forced, or not really on the same page emotionally, the fusion will have extra limbs, extra eyes, and more difficulty in remaining fused. In order from most monstrous/least simpatico to most simpatico/most humanoid: * The Cluster: Forced fusion of the gem shards themselves, rather than whole gems fusing. They all want to find the rest of the pieces of their natural gem rather than be fused with the parts forced together. The implication is that it's kind of torturous for them. * The Gem Experiments: more forced fusion of gem shards rather than whole gems. They tend to grope around blindly and stagger toward whatever is near them. As with the Cluster, it is implied that it's torture for different gem bits to be attached in this forced manner. * Malachite: Jasper and Lapis Lazuli. Malachite has four eyes, two arms, and four more arms that serve as legs. She was formed "voluntarily" but each gem forming her had a different idea of her purpose so she was constantly at war within herself until Jasper broke free and took control of the monstrous fusion. * Jasper-Jasper: A homeworld Jasper force fusing with a corrupted Jasper. The corrupted Jasper had become a four legged beast of some kind and was almost but not quite mindless, so the Homeworld Jasper could control the fusion until the corrupted gem sought escape. Also, corruption is contagious so Homeworld Jasper became corrupted from this choice. * Alexandrite (as mentioned above): Six arms, two faces, a VoiceOfTheLegion, and Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst have difficulty holding together. * Sugilite: Four arms, five eyes, costume is a shredded mess. She has Ruby's intensity and Amethyst's boisterousness put together, even though Sapphire is in there somewhere. She tends to love showing off with feats of strength, and is resultingly hard on Garnet and Amethyst when she can be convinced to de-fuse. * Sardonyx: Four eyes, Four arms, a midsection that is not properly connected (she can spin 360 degrees on her waist). Garnet and Pearl are mostly in agreement to form her. * Smoky Quartz: Steven and Amethyst. Smoky has only two eyes, and one and a half arms, indicating how simpatico their fusion is. * MegaRuby: Five homeworld Ruby gems fuse into one big one, and no problems with the fusion because they only do it for combat situations and it's understood among them that's why they do it. * Garnet: Ruby and Sapphire. They look like an unusually tall humanoid female except for the third eye, which (they may keep intentionally because it) sees the future. * Stevonnie: Steven and Connie. She looks like an average human teen, indicating that Steven and Connie are pretty much a perfect union.
