^^^^^ The point is that Koizumi ''claims'' they're this. Besides, the couple of times we see the monsters, they're pretty dangerous. You can also add that sometimes, the purpose of such an organization is to uphold the masquerade - to stop the mass panic that would erupt if it turned out vampires, for example, were secretly lurking in the shadows. Notes on the description: * Is {{Conscription}} ''really'' necessary? A lot of the examples I'm familiar with don't have it - in Pacific Rim and Attack on Titan and Soul Eater, for example, people sign up for this stuff. Notes on the image: * It's pretty okay. KUBIS, honestly. Not ideal (it doesn't show the "race" of giant kaiju whatever) but it works. * [[http://animewriter.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/the-worm-is-frozen.jpg This]] from Strike Witches? Doesn't show the "race of enemies" either, but at least it's a single pic. EDIT: YOLP it is from Sky Girls. Sorry, I'm getting my search history mixed up. Rewriting the Song of Ice and Fire example: * Played with in the Night's Watch from ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire''. They were created specifically to defend the realm from magical ice zombies called the Others (and their minions, the wights) but lack any specialized weaponry, and, by the time the series begins, the organization has devolved into an ArmyOfThievesAndWhores after centuries of peace. Although as the series goes on, they may be played straight, as [[spoiler:the Others are hinted to be making a comeback, and dragonglass is discovered to be ''very'' effective in fighting them]]. I know you said no examples, but I might forget to add these after it gets launched, although admittedly they're very masquerade-y worlds: * Theoretically, the purpose of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'''s shinigami is to fight tortured souls that become Hollows so they can be reincarnated and stop eating people. Since most of the series revolves around the shinigamis' conflicts with each ''other'', however, we don't get to see a lot of this happening. * The {{Magical Girl Warrior}}s of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' use their phlebotinum-powered weapons to fight Witches, dangerous {{Eldritch Abomination}}s whose [[RealityWarper reality warping]] pose threats to humanity.
