Series/JoanOfArcadia: Joan's mother works at her school. She is an administrator and doesn't teach so neither Joan nor her brother have her in class. Still, she is privy to their grades, class registration, and discipline issues and will discuss them in the school front office. Speaking as a Real Life example of this trope, one aspect of this trope that almost never gets played is that depending on the age of the child, they will spend way more time at the school than most children. Remember, teachers get their before the students and leave after them, so the kid will often have to stay. Mitigated in Public School settings as most have buses that the child can take, but it's an underused excuse to get the kid close to the AncientConspiricy that meets after hours on school grounds. They may also have to come in during the weekend or even the summer as well. If there is a significantly large amount of faculty kids (the default catch all for the kids in this situation in my school) they may even form something of their own clique and friendships, especially if the school offers little to no extra curricular (common in middle and elementary schools as the buses limit club activities and most clubs don't meet on a daily basis). As a general rule, these characters are supporting casts in works of fiction, as a teacher's child is a bit more disciplined than his or her peers. Even if you do not take classes with your parent, when you're mom is your teacher's co-workers, every day is parent-teacher conference day. As an addendum to the mention of attempts to try and schedule parents and student children into separate classes, the ability to do this depends on size. In large schools it can be done but it's almost unavoidable in smaller schools.
