I'm thinking of a couple examples, but I don't know if they're correct.

An early SpongeBob episode had SpongeBob join a group of elite jellyfishers who spend all their time pranking him. When they find out SpongeBob is a better jellyfisher than their captain, Kevin the Sea cucumber, they rip off the top of his head and give it to SpongeBob, who remarks he didn't know it was a hat. Kevin cries that it wasn't.

Also, at the beginning of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Esmerelda compliments Quazimoto on his mask, which happens to be his real face.

Inverted in the Halloween episode of Hey Arnold! Helga's father Bob thinks the aliens are real, but Helga tries to prove that she's a fake by pulling off her mask, but it doesn't come off because Harold provided permament makeup that doesn't come off easily, further convincing Bob that the aliens are real.

Any example where people think facial hair or some bizarre feature is fake but trying to pull it off results in it being stuck because it's real, I think that's this trope.
