* ''{{Pokemon}}'' has addressed the issue of the {{mons}} being used to fight in the games. ** As early as the first game, it's been noted that pokemon were supposed to be treated with care, with the Professor praising the main character for having a good relationship with his mons and some trainers bringing up the matter (indeed the only evidence that Team Rocket were bad was that they abused their mons). ** The second game elaborated by having TheRival explicitly be a worse trainer than you because he abused his pokemon (until he has an epiphany), and introduced a mechanic for how much a given mon liked you (although apart from two moves that dealt damaged based on it and a couple of pokemon who evolved when it was maxed out it didn't mean much). ** The GBA and first three DS games added to the lore and emphasised the relationship between trainers and pokemon some more. ** Black and White pretty much based the entire plot on the issue.
