I think ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}}'' should count as a notably unusual example. Besides normal grabs and slightly stronger command grabs (some of which require a half-circle directional input), some characters can chain specific combos into preset throws (Ganryu and Bruce have access to a series of sumo and muay thai grapples, for instance), and all characters can change to a new grab depending on which direction they approach the opponent (left, right, back). Upon knocking an opponent down in a tackle, many characters are able to go through several paths on input besides merely punching them in the head, with some characters allowed to initiate standing tackles for this purpose (Kazuya, Paul, Raven, Dragunov). Finally, [[http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/wiki/Tekken_Tag_Tournament_2/System/Throws_Part-2 many grappling characters]] can grab a crouching opponent, some can grab a downed opponent from the feet, head, and sides (with the move sometimes changing depending on if they're faced up or down) and even fewer can grab someone in the midst of a ground-bounce or wall-bouncing (Marduk). King and Nina (along with their respective clones) are known for their multithrows, which can branch down several paths, sometimes aross chains of 6 inputs (see the [[http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/Mexican_Magma_Drive Mexican Magma Drive]]).
