Whenever you watch Ultraman X, long time fans are the only one capable of relating it to yet another series about befriending Kaiju, Ultraman Cosmos. However, this show boost it further with the theme of cyberpunk and technology, which shows on our title Ultraman. In addition, giving us the vibes of yet another cyber themed superhero from Tsuburaya Productions, Denkou Choujin Gridman.
Ultraman X is a unique case, in that while he is an Ultraman, he can also transform into a mass of data. Unfortunately he's permanently trapped in this form as a result of his previous battle. X bonded with Daichi Ozora of Xio, a Badass Crew bend on salvaging Spark Dolls (the gimmick inherited from Ultraman Ginga) before they turn into monsters and harvest their powers into Cyber Cards as weapons in against monster threats. Despite their militaristic approach, Xio is known for establishing relationship with alien races, so here we can see alien relationship with humanity, such example with Dr. Guruman. Unfortunately the episodes 7 and 8 also show us that humans can be prejudice with aliens, as when the royal alien prince tE-rU was bullied by some bystanders.
Compared to most attack teams in Ultramen history, Xio has a lot more active involvement in helping Ultraman X, as he equips on armors made by fusing with Cyber Kaiju, giving him additional power and protection. The relationship of humans with monsters can be explored here. Daichi's attempt to bring in Cyber Gomora gives An Aesop to the series that one must not heavily rely on scientific researches, even an idealistic approach can also be successful. This over reliance on science shows in one instance when X was tricked into using a Zetton armor to face the same monster, only to backfire as he was brainwashed into evil.
The season is far from being an important Milestone Celebration but there are a total of five guest Ultramen to aid X in the height of important crisis. They also became an important Chekovs Gunman in the movie when they appear to fight monsters worldwide.
And just like Cosmos, the latter half of series introduce us to The Corrupter energy source which turns monsters into mindless rampant. Some even evolve into a different form but there are others just receiving minor upgrades. Enter Ultraman Exceed X, a form which allows X to expel the dark influence. If the target in question is a brainwashed monster, X just return to his original form to put it in Spark Doll state but when he is facing a very dangerous opponent, Exceed X kills the enemy without turning into said doll.
The final episode's development has X harnessing the Power of Friendship with other Spark Doll monsters and fuse into Hybrid Armor to defeat the Last Boss. Overall, I can say that despite the show being average, it is however worthy to be watched.
