I'd give a more detailed review of this, but can't because of the word limit, so I'll have to make do with this. Shounen Onmyouji is my number one favorite anime of all time, and the very anime that proved to be the catalyst for my hunting down DV Ds of an entire series and completing an entire series. The animation can be very crisp and clean when it wants to be, even though there's a few still frames here and there. The music, though a mixed bag, really does it's job when it wants to. The characters may seem like your average stereotypes, but once the second half of the show comes around (BY GOD, THAT SECOND HALF WILL BLOW YOU AWAY!), prepare to be proven wrong. Best of all, little details that many watchers might forget about continue to persist in the show, and they all contribute to something big. The story never goes off-track, and it does what it's supposed to do, something that modern anime these days need to remember to do every now and again. This is a bittersweet tale of growing up, the loss of innocence, and making decisions that seem hard but are for the best. Oh God, the ending to this show is awesome. It did everything right, wrapped things up nicely, isn't totally happy, didn't rely on a Deus Ex Machina to magically restore everything, and stayed true to what the show, and itself, really is, and that is why Shounen Onmyouji is my number one favorite anime. It will never ever leave my heart, and I don't think any other anime will live up to it. Ever. I still own all the DV Ds to this day!
