I'm not a big fan of human AU stories, but this is so wonderfully written and elegant that I fell in love with it right away. This fic isn't as long as many of the multi-part stories listed here, but it manages to convey a great deal of emotion in each part. It should also be noted that the author is very knowledgeable about ancient Rome, so this fic happily averts the Did Not Do The Research trope.
