Review

It is good but make no mistake, this is not really a Ranma story. Sure, the characters and family situation are the same/similar but it practically lacks everything that made Ranma special. The humor, the curses, the fighting, the character relationships, whacky martial arts, Ryouga. There is fighting and martial arts and even a bit of magic with the wish fulfilling but it is all toned down with a more "realistic" if a bit inconsistent touch. For one, Ranma trained a body that belonged to a normal geeky student with literally no training into a comparable state that he was in canon in a matter of a few weeks which should be impossible. Then there is the fact that his sister, whose ankle injury just won't heal, even though she is probably at a level of martial arts that would allow her to heal faster seeing that Ranma, in this body mind you, recovers almost instantly. It also bugs me how much of a damsel she is at times, needing rescue of some sort way too often.

Then there is the fact that the "villains" in this story are just one-dimensionally evil and every antagonist so far has just been absolute scum for no real reason, inconsistently so and out-right demonized. They couldn't actually be worse, all pretty much being petty, unreasonable, dishonorable, cowardly and egoistic rapists. All of them.

Adding to that, most characters behave vastly different, such as Kuno, who is one of the villains, Ranma himself, having changed so much that I barely recognize him, none of his charm, arrogance, confidence and brashness there, just honor and protectiveness that he has but he is more complex than that. To be honest, Ranma felt sort of blank. I mean sure, the changes in behavior are explained, seeing that they all grew up and lived life in a vastly different way, but once so many things have changed, it really made me question why this was a Ranma fanfiction at all?

And yet, I still read all of it and even enjoyed it if only for the interaction between Ranma and Ranko, which honestly was by far the best part of the story, the tension between them.

The story overall just feels to melancholic, and has too many mentions of rape to be truly considered enjoyable but it makes for an interesting read, especially seeing the mysteries surrounding a few characters and the interaction between the Saotome siblings.
