It was good

I thought it was good. Not great, but good. It has an interesting plot and successfully integrates video game and comic book tropes into its story. But, I can see why it didn't do too well in theaters. It requires too much knowledge of video games to know. If you aren't a huge video game fan, you probably won't get the references. The only game that had a Shout Out in there that I've played was Legend Of Zelda. So yeah. That's my review.

It didn't require any knowledge of video games at all. So long as you understand that it runs on the logic of a video game, you're fine. You don't need to know that there was a video game called The Clash At Demonhead to understand that a band was called The Clash At Demonhead, you don't need to know what River City Ransom is to find the Evil Exes exploding into coins humorous. At absolutely no point do you need to know the reference to enjoy it.

As I understand it, it didn't do well in theaters because it's based on a comic that's not really that popular and it went against The Expendables. Even if it was the greatest film of all time, it wouldn't have done well.
