Kickassia kicked ass- except for plot

This is the very first time I have reviewed something, and I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about how a "Good" movie is made, so I'll just keep it in retrospect.

First of all, I am a fan of the Nostalgia Critic, Linkara, Spoony, Cinema Snob, Pheolus, Nostalgia Chick and some other reviewers (once in a while). But the ONLY reason why is because when they do their reviews of bad media, they always touch on something with me and they somehow encourage me to stand up for the dignity for good storytelling and character development as well as technics for a media. They serve as an inspiration to us all not only to keep to our own opinions but to remeber the logic, beauty, and integrety of the good media that is under threat of being abused by the evils of bad media.

In Kickassia THAT CONCEPT IS COMPLETELY IGNORED AND THEY JUST GO FOR SOME COMEDIC CRASH COURSE RESULTING IN A CLASH OF SILLIENESS THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REVIEWING! But with that aside, Kickassia is just a load of fun for the fans and admirers of these guys. It is not a film in my honsest opinion, but it's an internet special that was made for laughs and to show that these guys really care. (Perhaps releasing it on DVD wasn't a smart move, but that's a whole nother discussion.) From a fan's point of view, fun, silly, and over the top, but this troper would really appreciate it if they made a special focusing on what it takes to define the goods and evils of media.

Internet specials aren't usually made feature-length. They did make a film-length thing that, yes, had nothing to do with reviewing, but then, if they did review something it would just be a 2-hour long Nostalgia Critic special with a billion long-term cameos, and considering how varied the review styles and subjects are of the contributors, finding something that falls under all their criteria is damn near impossible. Hell, the First Anniversary Brawl didn't review anything, but yes it did cover that there's no superior review subject and that they all stand equally. I think Kickassia kind of went down that path even further to absurd levels for comedy. One guy makes a successful review site and suddenly thinks he can take over the world(OF COURSE)? That's funny. Finding something they can all cover is pretty hard, because the goods and bads of media are really also subjective to a degree. The different kinds of reviewers would clash on what they think defines something truly good. For some(Spoony, no offense meant), things should make logical sense but can push that if it's for comedic effect and not for plot effect. For others(like Cinema Snob) as long as you're really having fun, it doesn't matter too much if it makes complete sense.

Really, it is a film. You have a large cast of actors playing their characters who interact with one another, some getting more plot importance and screentime than others but, in that vein it's just like a regular film. The plot works because of the characters, and they make plenty of shout outs to their other works as running jokes so the people who actually watch those can have a better time. It's like seeing an actor reference one of their prior roles, it's all meant in good fun for the fans. So to me, it works. They don't spend much time establishing characters because the audience is expected to already know the characters well enough. We know from the get-go Michael Cera is probably playing the semi-awkward nerd character. In conclusion, it's film length, it covers the plot decently, it has distinguishable characters, and as a standalone film is pretty hilarious, and even funnier if you get all the shout-outs. To me, that seems like an actual film.

Thanks for your input, man. The plot just bothered me a little bit, but the rest of it made it a fun fide of thrills. However, what REALLY bugs me is that there are those who argue that the film is crap because Doug and his friends couldn't do any better than other movies who were on a lower shouestring budget and less time to shoot. I felt really insulted for these guys (I'm just empathetic that way.) Then there is talk that TGWTG all suck because if twenty of their biggest names can't make a "decent" film, then what right do they have to make videos reviewing media in the exact same manner this movie can be? It really bothers me.

It bugs the crap out of me too. You don't need to be able to make a good film to KNOW what can make a great film. Budget isn't everything, and if anyone actually said the contributors couldn't do any better than movies on a lower budget with LESS time to shoot? What. They filmed Kickassia in 4 days. 4 DAYS. Most filmshoots take months! And not every contributor reviews films! Because Sage, Linkara, and Benzaie can't make a good film, they shouldn't judge films? BUT THEY DON'T HOW IS-argh too infuriating.

Sad truth is there will always be Fan Dumb out there ready to cry Ruined Forever at the tiniest fault.

And if the plot bothers you too much, look at it this way: NC has always wanted to rule a country once he has internet poularity(Because yknow that really means something important ;D) he rallies his allies into taking over one. When he says "everyone says we're crazy" HE MEANT IT. NC has always been kind of unstable, but when given control over an actual country? It hits the fan and the lesser evils have to unite to fix it. The Nostalgia Chick is basically NC lite-once NC has control she starts working on taking it for herself. Cinema Snob is the only one with real sense and as such shouldn't really belong, and thus does get kicked out. Spoony represents the fallen genius afraid of his own powers, but when coerced will return to the Dark Side for the greater good...until the Dark Side reminds him, hey, he just usurped a president.

If you look at it as making fun of/parodying a lot of prevalent tropes it's actually pretty hilarious.

Critic makes even more sense if you've binged on the episodes where he clearly hates his job (especially the commercials special later on). No wonder he wants power and is perfectly happy with no more reviews, his life kinda sucks.

As for Chick, Lindsay has been making sure that everyone knows she's a crazy, awful person. So the bitchiness here is totally IC.

Thanks a lot for the logic people. It's a fun film. I guess I can be a little Fan Dumb myself.
