The Bible's own Game Of Thrones

In Judges we get a shift from the action of the people of Israel settling down in their own land to the people of Israel falling into sin over and over again and being handed over to their enemies. When that happens, God answers back to delivering them a judge, a warrior-leader that would come to Israel's rescue in that moment of time. Not that all the judges are completely morally upright people; heck, God has to raise up a woman to be a judge when there was no man worth to carry the mantle. But they saved the day, and peace reigned in the region until that judge died and things go back to being bad all over again — lather, rinse, repeat. In addition, we get a few stories about Micah and his idols as well as a civil war with Israel and the tribe of Benjamin over an issue of sexual assault. The only hero in this book ends up being God, as He comes to Israel's aid time and again to rescue them from themselves and their ungodly actions. It can be read as an allegory of how God always seeks to bring us back to Himself no matter how many times we have sinned. It's sort of like the Bible's own answer to Game Of Thrones, although this is just the beginning of what sorts of problem Israel would be having in their own homeland. Then the real fun begins.
