Very subtle Christian messaging

Honestly, I watched the films before I read the book, so my opinion is going to be a bit biased. While the original book was good in having a compact fantasy story that wasn't very complicated, the Peter Jackson film adaptation takes it up to the level of the book's sequel The Lord of the Rings by adding very subtle Christian messaging in it, for those who are familiar with Tolkien's faith and writings: that spiritual warfare is always afoot, and we must be ready for it. The third movie in the trilogy is I think the weakest entry, because it feels like a very long fight scene that never ends (the same problem I have with The Two Towers of LOTR), but it still has the "spiritual warfare" subplot that kept me interested to find out how it ends.

I\'m a Christian (though not Roman Catholic like Tolkien), but I personally don\'t see it. Can you give examples of this \"spiritual warfare\"?
