Great premise. But sadly...

I'm not going to lie, I tried very hard to get into this fic. I tried giving it a chance. I really did...

Too bad there were just so many things grating on my nerves about it.

Starting, the story feels too much like it's a constant uphill battle for the team we're supposed to root for. We have literally gods on side... but instead of, you know, absolutely decimating your average wizard or even one as cunning as this fic's Lucius Malfoy seems to be (who, lbr, shouldn't be even an annoyance to Loki himself), we never see them truly win. Every victory feels... hollow, because the moment they finally manage to make some headway into finally beating the bad guys, turns out they had yet another ace in the hole.

Another thing is that basically every named character is treated as if they were the scariest mofo anyone's ever seen. The first few times it was interesting. By the sixth character it was annoying and frustrating.

And of course, how can I forget that Harry, who is supposed to be the story's main character, doesn't really do anything until the last arc. We were told and shown he was being trained in magic by Loki, hand to hand combat from Natasha, Clint and Steve, and he's Thor's son, and yet, other than some mannerisms and a somewhat happier personality, his power still feels stupidly low.

When I saw the fic's premise, I hoped I had finally found something filled of happy family moments and engaging battles that actually would leave me with a smile. Instead, I found a story filled with victories that felt pyrrhic, very badly executed foreshadowing and what felt like forced drama and angst.

If I can ask, did you you finish reading Child of the Storm all the way through? Or did you stop before that? I\'m curious to know.

I stopped at the end of the first fic, where Voldemort, somehow, summonned a demoness.

When I started reading it it showed so much promise, but by the time the big bad summoned those undead valkyries I was already less than enthused about it, and just finished the first fic of the series out of inertia

While I am willing to accept your opinion I have a question of my own: Are you well versed in any of franchises involved? Because if the canon version of the Harry Potter verse characters were transported to any version of the Marvel Universe, yeah it could be argued that they could be easily beaten by the Avengers or Masters of Evil. But the author has clearly stated that the HP characters are alternate versions of the ones from canon (same applies for the Marvel, DC, Dresden Files, Stargate, etc. characters). When I mean well-versed in those franchises, I mean like, say for Marvel, your only experience with Marvel was through the MCU and maybe a few cartoons and that you didn\'t read any of the comics. Because judging by your review and responses it seems you weren\'t well-versed in the lore of the majority of those franchises and that the only franchise you seem to know really well is Harry Potter. I guess that it can be confusing for someone who is not well versed in those franchises. Also I\'ll end this response with one more question: Did you even give this fic a chance?

@Batguy You blatantly missed the entire point. Even IF Lucius was 100x as competent as canon, he\'d be at best a minor nuisance to comic Nick Fury and a moderate threat to MCU Fury. No one in Harry Potter besides Dumbledore and Voldemort could even be decent in Dresden Files. Yet half-Asgardian Harry who learned martial arts from three of the greatest Marvel fighters, magic from the greatest Marvel sorcerer, and is the vessel of the Phoenix Force struggling and failing against a character who\'s only a country level threat because of how easy the government is to takeover isn\'t just laughable, it\'s insulting. Compared to any decent sized threat (not even the cosmic beings like Cthon or Odin, just planetary at worst) in DC, Marvel, or Dresden Files alone, Voldemort and his Death Eaters are outright pathetic. The fact they ARE legitimate threats means they\'re not \"Alternate versions of themselves\", it means they\'re In Name Only.

All is not lost. Not yet.
