A creepy, cinematic exerience.

I came here after Little Nightmares due to frequent comparisons, and I ended up really enjoying the game.

INSIDE is a 3D-rendered 2D puzzle platformer with intriguing, disturbing atmosphere, as you play as a boy entering a sinister corporate laboratory facility. The movement through feels dynamic and exciting and the camera is played with to offer illusions of 3D motion. Like LN, you can run, grab, climb, and sneak, though the latter is scripted rather than controlled by the player. The puzzles use physics and occasionally have a test-chamber vibe, but other puzzle scenarios are more tense, involving evasion or blending in. They're generally pretty clever but not too frustrating. The game has simple controls, but they're effective.

Thematically, the game is vague and ominous, with an undercurrent of mind control, dystopia, and perhaps even meta-commentary about player agency in games. I love the kind of scientific horror the game plays into and its willingness to get weird, bloody, and scary, and the finale is truly one of the most special experiences I've had in a game.

Visually, the game is great, combining a cel-shaded look with more realistic lighting effects, and the 3D visuals are entirely to the game's benefit. The game also features one of the most visually impressive game characters I've ever seen, having truly amazing animation/programming.

This game is unquestionably a work of art, with beautiful visuals and thought-provoking ideas. I highly recommend it.
