Book 3 of 40

Dorothy is back due to popular demand, and the adventure takes place mostly in the land of Ev rather than Oz. Viewers of the film Return to Oz will recognize most of the plot points. I actually prefer the Dorothy being in a mental asylum intro to that movie to Uncle Henry's weird trip to Australia; did many poor farmers from Kansas at the turn of the 20th century travel, especially to Australia? Not a fan of that plot excuse. I question Princess Ozma's logic in traveling across the Deadly Desert to rescue Ev's royal family, putting herself and her subjects at risk for a kingdom that has no relations to Oz (can't exactly be trade partners with a Deadly Desert in the way). Especially strange since Oz is mainly isolationist in subsequent books. Ozma even resorts to threats before bargains with the Nome King; not the smartest method when you're deep in enemy territory.

Still, I overall enjoyed this book.
