My Favorite Holiday Special

✰✰✰✰✰

I am mildly obsessed with this eerie, horrific, half-hour Seussical cosmic horror Halloween nightmare.

The Eldritch Abominations of the "Paraphernalia Wagon" (the Eldritch Location) haunted my childhood. Even the "Cute, but Cacophonic" baby near the beginning of the film creates the most jarring effect with its freakish "Wawowow!" sobbing.

The structure of Grinch Night is extremely satisfying. It carries a sinister tone through its whole— until the eerie suspense gives way to surreal horror in the climactic Mind Screw - Acid Sequence. The viewer is left uneasy despite the credit sequence's cheerful music, having been reminded that the force-of-nature, reality-warping, dog-enslaving, seemingly ageless Grinch will be back someday when the sour-sweet wind again blows through the defenseless town.

Needless to say, I watch it every year.
