Definitely the best game I have ever played. (Of course, that is just my opinion.)

Mother 3 is a beautiful game, and there really isn't anything I legitimately dislike about it. The gameplay is very fun and interactive; while Earthbound gameplay wise was very quirky but relatively easy, Mother 3's gameplay is more strategic and rewards the player for playing smart and not just bashing enemies. The Combo system also keeps the fights fresh and adds another layer of depth to the combat, making you feel more involved in it. There's so much life in the world of Mother 3 too, the NPC's can be quirky and always have funny things to say. Their dialogue often changes even after small events in the story, so there's always new things to see. The writing is as quirky and hilarious as ever.

But without a doubt, the best part is definitely the story. It's so engaging, emotional, and well written. To this day, It's still the only game that legitimately made me cry. I attribute that reason to the main character, Lucas.

Usually in games with Silent Protagonists, they want you to feel like you're the protagonist, but that usually falls flat for me. There isn't really much I identify with in a character that's just a blank slate. But the way Mother 3 did it truly made me feel like the protagonist.

In the game, each character you directly control becomes silent until the role passes to someone else, but the game fully acknowledges that they can talk and have their own personalities, giving you glimpses of them even when in the spotlight. The story is told with such raw emotion and heart, that it really puts you in the shoes of the character you play as. It doesn't work as well with Duster and Salsa, but with Flint and especially Lucas, the Silent Protagonist role fits perfectly. When you play as Lucas, you see him flashing back to happier days, you witness all the hardships and grieving he goes through, and feel the sadness and grieve with him. You experience what he feels, and react the way he does to the sadness of the story. Even when he doesn't react, like when you come face to face with the Main Antagonist, he doesn't need to. You understand and feel all the anger and pain Lucas feels when he sees him, and you want to truly make him pay for what he's done.

The Story's themes are so heartrending and beautiful too, the importance of Family and Love, Nature and how people warp it, of Humanity and their folly, and how dark the world can be. But the most beautiful thing has to be the ending. It has so many emotions flying, Sadness, Anger, Desperation and Love. It culminates in Lucas facing the worst thing to happen him in his tear-jerking story. But despite everything, all his hardships, his loss, his pain and his tears...He still rises up and moves forward. He doesn't go crazy or try to hurt the world the way it's hurt him. He goes on to do what's right despite all of the pain he's felt, and truly makes the world a better place with the Love in his heart. Lucas truly grew up, and his finale is so awe-inspiring, and beautiful.
