Great show but terrible morals

What can be said about The Simpsons that hasn't been said before. It's a great show and it has the most memorable jokes in the past.

Currently The Simpsons are going through a bit of a dry of spell and you can see that the producers are running out of ideas for episodes and jokes to make but now they are slowly getting better with the episodes and jokes.

As you read in the title my main issue with the Simpsons is that the morals are absolutely stupid with my main problem being with episodes Brake My Wife, Please and Jazzy And The Pussycats.

Brake My Wife, Please is about Homer losing his driving license and Marge becoming a driver for all members of the family until she hits Homer with the car and numerous other times where she tries to hurt him until they consult a marriage counsellor to find the root of their problem.

Jazzy and The Puzzycats is about Bart taking up drumming to tone down his attention seeking ways until he unintentionally upstages Lisa by joining a jazz group which causes Lisa to become depressed and adopt several animals which results in a baby tiger damaging Bart's arm tendons which prevents him playing the drums.

My main problem with these episodes is that both Homer and Bart are not antagonists in any way in these episodes Homer actually tries to de-stress Marge by inviting her to walk with him which she denies due to helping another member. while Lisa is simply jealous of Bart even though she was just unlucky. Both Bart and Homer both apologise and do things for them like Homer throwing a party for Marge. Bart donating the funding for repairing his arm to an animal sanctuary to prevent the animals from being euthanised.

I hate these morals because it puts Marge and Lisa as victims even though they did more harm than Bart and Homer. Lisa gets no punishment for permanently disabling her brother and harbouring dangerous animals in a house. while Marge seriously injures Homer by hitting him with a car, scalding him with soup and knocking away his cane even though he struggles to walk. Marge and Lisa should get punishment for their actions not praise and apologies.

Overall its a great show but it needs to work on the morals but The Simpsons will soon return to its former glory.

I'm sorry, but World War III is at least five times as likely as The Simpsons ever returning to any sort of glory. And it's just kind of silly to use contemporary episodes as any kind of moral compass when it's long since sacrificed any remaining humanity for cheap laughs.

Good point they made all the jokes so there is none left to make. They can't make modern jokes because pretty much all other shows are doing it better.

What episodes do you hate?

Marge and Lisa always tended to get a Double Standard, just now it's more tongue in cheek.

I thought of it from a child's view because I've watched the Simpsons since I was a kid and if I saw this as a kid (just me not other kids). I would get a negative idea like if you're a woman then you can get away with anything.

I am not saying I speak for everyone because everyone has a different opinion but this is my opinion and I know that there will always be a double standard but I would of at least expected Marge to punish Lisa by sending her to her room like she did in Itchy & Scratchy Land.

I'm sort of surprised by this; I actually took Jazzy and the Pussy Cat to less be about Bart learning a lesson so much as him showing Lisa that he was willing to give up things he cared about for her (and be the bigger person). Lisa was definitely petty here but I don't think the show made her out to be in the right, so much as jealous and clinging to Jazz as one of "her" things. As a sibling who has been on bothsides of it, I could sympathize.

I think it's similar to Brake My Wife; Homer and Bart aren't antagonists, in the context of the single episode, they aren't even doing anything wrong. However, they definitely both have a history of being selfish (which both of them display in their respective episodes) and these episodes were examples not of them taking their fair share but making sacrifices and recognizing the strain they put on a fellow family member. I don't think that's necessarily a bad message, though it's not strongly evident in either episode individually.

I can agree that "Homer and Bart are dumb and should therefore cowtow to Marge's/Lisa's perspective or later learn their lesson" has been overused and makes the relationships feel a bit one sided but I'm not sure that this is where I'd narrow it down to.

I kinda have to agree. Marge and Lisa's problems, no matter what funny light they put them in, are almost always portrayed as being more important or more serious than Homer and Bart's. It started doing that a lot after the first few seasons, where it was a bit more even.
