The film’s pacing is very episodic in structure, and most episodes feature a more extreme form of psychological torture inflicted on the main character by her husband. After a while it becomes extremely uncomfortable to watch, specifically because it’s done so well (for the most part—the incriminating letter is rather baffling). All the torture makes the final confrontation very satisfying, but otherwise I couldn’t watch it in one sitting and had to take frequent breaks.
