A Great Open-World FPS...with some story issues

I've never played a Far Cry game before. So when jumping into Far Cry 4, I was a bit skeptical. I thought it'd be another typical FPS, but I found an intriguing open-world shooter.

The game's story was pretty average for the most part. A rebellion trying to take down a flamboyant dictator in a land known as Kyrat, most likely based off Nepal or India. FC 4 features a "moral" choice system where you can decide whether to support one of the two leaders of the Golden Path, the terrorist group; those two people being Sabal, a reactionary who's been a supporter of the Golden Path for years, and Amita, a woman tormented by the traditional values of the past. Sabal wants to preserve the culture of the past while Amita wants to create change for the future. The disappointing part of these characters is that they are both not fleshed out nearly enough and neither of them are particularly interesting. Also, there's no option where you can choose to run the Golden Path yourself. You have to side with either of these guys even though you seem to be the only member of the Golden Path that actually does anything. Also, most of the endings are unsatisfying, and the only relatively "good" one involves not playing the game at all. The side characters are far more interesting, such as Longinus, the arms dealer, and Hurk the all-American dude-bro. The only good part of the story is the deconstruction of typical military shooters by portraying both the "terrorists" and the Empire as both evil in their own special ways.

Story aside the gameplay is excellent. The game controls well and there's a variety of different guns to collect and mow down enemies with. I had a lot of fun exploring the world and capturing the many outposts that the antagonist, Pagan Min, has under control. When you're not capturing heavily-guarded outposts or getting rid of the propaganda towers, you're doing the variety of sidequests in the game, sort of like GTAV. You can move the game at your own pace this way which means you can focus on getting more money and unlocking better guns before taking on more difficult missions.

I'll quickly mention the excellent soundtrack by Cliff Martinez. My favorite tracks were The Mountain Watches and The Hard Road. A few licensed songs from The Bombay Royale and The Clash were used. All great.

Overall, Far Cry 4 is a great open-world shooter.
