I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, but I agree about all the padding. Except the hunting scene. I liked the scene of the deer that wasn't afraid of humans. It was interesting.
It's very obvious that the whole "split the final book into two movies" trend here was used solely as a cash grab, and not to make a better two movies. With Harry Potter, it made sense, since we're talking about a 600+ page book here. Not with this one.
Here's hoping Part 2 is better designed.
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones!I think Harry Potter had more padding. There are probably only 5ish minutes of scenes in Mockinjay that aren't directly from the books, I feel like Deathly Hallows part 1 had a lot of things just added for time.
It might be a 600 page book, but I think it's a more straightforward story. Or rather, all the complicated parts in Deathly Hallows they couldn't and didn't put into the last film because they hadn't included the storylines in the previous films. We skipped right over all the Dumbledore stuff.

Part 1 is full of padding
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is full of padding in attempt to justify making it a 2-part movie. We get:
All in all, you could probably cut about half the movie and not miss any content or subtleties. Honestly, I wish they had. Granted, there are some really good scenes in this movie (she has some great moments working with the rebellion), but they are hampered by the fact that there is so much timewasting in between.
My recommendation: wait until part 2 comes out and just watch this before then. It will still be a long movie, but it won't be as much of a time waster.
