Episode 1

It's beautiful.

That's the first thing I want to mention. Artistically, Dysfunctional Systems is standout. The soundtrack is phenomenal, as is the artwork. But on top of that, there's also the little things in the way the novel plays out - little touches in the way the portraits slide around, the way the menus are crafted, small things like that. Playing it at first, you wouldn't be able to tell that the game is made with Ren'py. So much love and care went into crafting the visual experience, and the result is beautiful.

The writing is only a step behind. The beginning is a bit rocky at times, but it picks up so fast and so hard that those initial awkward bits are soon forgotten. I wish I could say more about it, but to do so would be to spoil the experience.

Really, as far as I'm concerned, Episode 1's only major crime is that it was way too short. But, perhaps, that was intentional; after all, it left me hungry enough to put down a sizable amount to Kickstart the rest of the series.

I had no regrets in doing so.
