Shards To a Whole

A well-crafted work that spins off from the NCIS season 9 cliffhanger and builds a new story arc from there. After nearly dying from an explosion that rocked the NCIS office, Tim and Abby take stock of their lives and decide to pursue their feelings for each other. The story largely involves the two of them exploring their new long-term relationship, both personally and sexually. Keep in mind that this is not a porn fic, but there is sex in it, and not always vanilla; it is established that Tim and Abby do enjoy a little mild kink. But for all that, it never sinks into Fifty Shades of Grey smut (in one scene, Tim tells Tony that he and Abby read Fifty Shades and found it accidentally hysterical but not remotely sexy). There is humor in this story, there is angst, there is action, there is drama, and there is romance, as Tim and Abby come together to form their own family, and as the NCIS crew is forged into a stronger family unit of its own (while not the main couple in the story, Tony and Ziva also end up together in this as well). It's a fairly long story (as of 1/12/2015 the story is over 400 chapters and updated frequently) but it's worth the time.

Update 1/12/2015: Recently, author Keryl Raist chose to split her story into two versions; the main story, "Shards to a Whole", and an alternate version called simply "Shards", which picks up after chapter 290 of the original story and proceeds from there. This gives fans a chance to follow the story (which is a little different in "Shards" but not too much) without dealing with some subject matter in the main story that they may find objectionable, specifically the McGees and their friends Jimmy and Breanna Palmer exploring a four-way relationship between each other. Both stories are worth following as she continues to explore the NCIS crew as they embark on new chapters in their lives, both personally and professionally.
