There are two entries here I have issues with.

  • Big Lipped Alligator Moment: The scene where Gray starts crying because he's worried that his parents are getting a divorce. While most likely intended for a bit of character development, its flawed execution makes it come across as a BLAM. The parents themselves don't get enough screentime to indicate that they are getting a divorce (indeed, aside from this one scene they seem to be portrayed as Happily Marriednote ), making the subject seem like it's suddenly coming out of nowhere. In context, the scene is a Mood Whiplash for both the film as a whole and for Gray himself, who shows nothing but excitement about seeing dinosaurs before and after this scene. Does it have any bearing on the plot? Is it ever brought up again? No.

I don't really agree with this. At the beginning, their father says something along the lines of "last family breakfast," meaning the divorce scene didn't come out of nowhere.

Additionally, this:

  • Critical Dissonance: The movie was a box office smash, broke several records and most critics liked it. However, some critics didn't and the movie has some detractors. The thing most people (including several critics that didn't like it) seem to agree on is that it's the best of the sequels, with most of the critics' complains being that it couldn't match the original.

It has 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty average for a blockbuster. Thoughts?

Agreed. BLAM keeps getting abused as "odd thing that I didn't like," when that isn't the trope.

There's a lot of business in here about Hoskins somehow knowing that the I. rex would escape and planning to sell her template to the military if she defeated the raptors. Granted, it's been a week or so since I've seen the film, but I don't remember anything in the actual material that would substantiate this being a real thing instead of just someone's fan theory. All I recall is one line musing about "imagine one of those things as a weapon" or something like that.

Anyone mind if I do a little trimming, or am I just forgetting something solid enough to bear this up as real canon?
