Throughout the show it's been hinted very very subtly... that Howie and Poodle are spoiled rich kids whose father gave them both hotels to run and branch out the family business. Well that's what I picked up on at least.
Also the fact I don't think it's as much Poodle wants the Banana Cabana because she hates Howie's guts. It's that she feels he's too irresponsible and doesn't deserve to run a hotel so she should run both to... 1- Suck up to their father of how responsible she is for running two hotels and look good in his eyes, and shaming Howie. 2- She makes twice as much money.
That's just my thought but I can't find a trope for "Hinted Backstory"
