All of the examples are from the films, because in the books all of these examples either didn't happen or have more reasonable explanations than "they were all idiots."

I've noticed there's a few people who consider Elrond an idiot for not trying to take the One Ring from Isildur at Mount Doom, when it became clear that Isildur had been corrupted by the Ring and wasn't going to destroy it. In response, people have argued that if Elrond did try and take the Ring, he'd be corrupted by it as well.
I can definitely buy that based on what I've seen, and I think the main issue of this potential point is whether or not Elrond knew what would happen to him if he tried to take the ring.
