First of all, you can't keep the drill from NOT burrowing to hell for as long as the series is on the air just to keep the Hellman's on the surface. So, the drill must be destroyed at the start of a season 2 (make it a two-parter) with Killbride sent to hell for Lucifer to torture. Lucifer is so impressed with the Hellman's, he offers them to stay among the surface dwellers as his covert-ops team, which would see them traveling the world, taking down the biggest enemies of Lucifer. Since the premise of this show is a bunch of demons living on the surface world, the Hellman's, having getting used to living on the surface world, accepts being covert-op agents. Plus, Balthazor can watch TV all the time without getting into trouble.

While tough to pull off, it would help if you can change the personas (slowly) of the Hellman's so they don't come off as clones of other cartoon families. I'd say give the Hellman's the personas of the Ultraforce characters over time.
Balthazor=Prime (hot head that prides in his strength)
Tina=Hardcase (brains of the group with a troubled past)
Mandy=Prototype/Jimmy Ruiz (cocky, young hotshot)
Josh=Topaz (low opinion of the opposite gender in general)
Vlaartark=Ghoul (wisecracking ancient)
Pazuzu=Contrary (intelligent and mysterious)

Finally, get rid of the toilet humor. What works for South Park does not work for Neighbors From Hell. I do not want to see poo on the screen again!
