I'm gonna go with no, it's not real. It's been years and plenty of people have hacked it so if something this awesome in a game as popular as this doesn't come up with some searching, I'm going with unfulfilled rumor. If you think it's well known enough, you can write it down as an example of Urban Legend of Zelda.

Has anyone else heard about a rumor that there's a secret way to play as Great Fox through the game? Supposedly, Miyamoto himself said that he wasn't going to reveal how to do it, but that it was possible. However, I can't really find anything about it anywhere.
