Lately, there has been something of a minor dispute concerning this entry:

  • Did Not Do The Research: Fans complaining Sonic should always win the racing events, forgetting Sonic is fastest doing the spin dash, which would get him disqualified. And they forget Mario can dash fast, at least in the 2D games.

Perhaps this would be better off discussed here before it gets serious.

My two cents? Sure, in some games, Sonic moved around at his fastest when doing the spindash, but in recent games, Sonic can hoof it pretty fast (even in gameplay).

I'll put in a corrected version.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

I don't know about that. Even in older games, he was classified by his speed. Gameplay-wise, he's fastest when spindashing, but he's also pretty fast when going top speeds, or when getting speed boosts. Sonic 3, in particular, has this, and the GBA Sonic games has him as being speedy as well. His defining speed moments came on the Dreamcast games. That's why the Saturday Morning cartoons has him as a speedster (which was taken from the genesis games)

Point being, Sonic was always a speedy character, spindash or no. I'm not saying that he should win all races, but that part in particular doesn't make much sense. The rest of the Did Not Do The Research makes sense. Mario's faster than he looks, and Sonic is pretty sporting, if not smug.

Okay, but what are Shadow and Metal Sonic's excuses? Shadow is every bit as fast as Sonic, and he has no reason to hold back. And Metal Sonic is a robot, he also would have no reason to restrain his speed.

Because it takes them awhile to get up to top speed without the aid of a treadmill or favorable incline. Hills do not help or hinder Mario nearly as much in his own 2D games and he is quicker to reach top speed.

Besides this, Knuckles and Rouge had higher top speeds than Sonic and Shadow in Adventure 2, then turned around and were slower in Heroes, the direct sequel. The game mechanics are hardly set in stone for either series.

Okay... Why is Daisy a speed type? One of the playable Mario characters is actually known to be faster than Yoshi, yet has slightly above average speed in the game. I'm talking about Luigi here, who's fast enough to run over the surface of water for a little while. I know this should go in "Just Bugs Me"/"Headscratchers", but I have no idea how to do anything about that.

I don't know (she didn't fit anywhere else maybe), but I'll open up a headscratchers page and put the question on it.

Why was this Natter.

  • The Woobie: Rouge in the second game. I mean really, getting beaten so easily and none of her love intrests aknowleging her and not appaering at all for the festival?

Because everyone got beaten easily, she doesn't have multiple confirmed love interests, and no one was acknowledged.
