I have a question about this trope’s application to Tales of Symphonia. On both this page and the game’s page, it says almost the entire party (Sans Sheena and Zelos, the former because she likes Lloyd, and Zelos, who figured out about the former’s feelings and is therefore trying to nudge Lloyd toward her) ships Lloyd and Colette in both the game and the OVA adaptation. This kind of confuses me. Regarding Genis and Raine, who are both specifically mentioned to stop trying to nudge them together once the Tethe’alla Arc starts (The former because he’s too busy trying to win Presea’s heart to tease his two best friends about their relationship with each other, and the latter is said to do so possibly because she wanted Colette to get it off her chest before her death at the end of the Journey of Regeneration), I can see where they do it in the game:
Genis mostly exploits the relationship between Lloyd and Colette to troll the former, like when he jokingly said Lloyd got rejected after he offered to go with Colette for a walk, and she said she wanted to be alone, and in one group victory quote, where he questions Colette’s taste in boys after she compliments Lloyd. However, in the skit “Lloyd Confesses His Love,” Genis genuinely appears to be trying to clue Lloyd in about how Colette feels underneath another moment of his signature trolling:
• Genis: Maybe you should try telling her you love her.
• Lloyd: What? Why?
• Genis: Oh, you’re so dense. Stop asking questions and just try it.
- I was confused when this page said Raine was also trying to nudge them together, but after watching a playthrough (So far, I haven’t played the game, but I did read the manga and watch the OVA), I think the moments where she tells Lloyd to go talk to Colette the night before the journey begins and the day before they go to the Tower of Salvation could be what the page is referring to.
However, I don’t really see any of the other party members not yet mentioned, those being Kratos, Presea and Regal, cheering for them to get together. Maybe there are moments I’m missing where these three do so. Are there any such moments?
Also, regarding the OVA, while Lloyd and Colette act MUCH more slashy toward each other than in the game, but I don’t really notice anybody in the party rooting for them to get together, like the game’s page says. I can think of two moments that could be argued as such, one being for Raine (When Lloyd and Genis initially reunite with her, Colette and Kratos, Kratos says the two will get in the way, but Raine says she doesn’t think so anymore) and the other being for Kratos (Just before the coffee scene, Lloyd asks where Colette is. Kratos directs him to her location, then gives Lloyd the two coffee cups), but I’m not sure if the person that wrote that edit was thinking of those two moments. Also, I don’t see anybody else in the party trying to nudge the two together in the OVA adaptation. What other moments might there be to suggest nearly everybody on the team ships them?
