While this can make sense for hardware (making a few expensive upgraded items for the journalists and a lot of cheaper items for the market), I don't understand what a company would get from making a special upgraded version of a game for the journalists. Once the upgraded version exists, it doesn't cost you anything to put that version on the market.

The only case where this would make sense is sending a complete version to journalists, and turning it into DLC for the mass market.
