Well, I sure don't like the Zeus image. The little guy should certainly not be a god. More prototypically it should be someone who doesn't look like they can put up a fight.

Removed one example. Angel Bunny is not Cthulhu. Enough said.

Should the title be changed or the pages that qualify be altered? Most of these do not remotely qualify as Eldritch Abominations, or even come close.

There should be a five hat requirement for you know that thing where, so those kinds of things can get sorted out before launch. An extended waiting period at least.

Just for the record, while I love the Fluttershy image, I'm not sure there was a sufficiently strong case for changing the original to it, if we think an earlier choice has some kind of priority for being there first. It was really good too.

Hey there—I swapped the page image.

I changed it because the original Lost pic didn't really have a staredown going on that was immediately apparent to those unfamiliar with Lost. The nature of the Smoke Monster is obviously Eldritch and Cthulhu-esque, but a lot of that is lost to those unfamiliar to the show. To someone who's not a fan of Lost, it's just a guy looking at a black cloud.

The new pic gets the point across even if the viewer isn't a watcher of FiM. The dragon has an actual eye for Fluttershy to lock gazes with, and showing her body next to the eye gives a sense of scale immediately impressed upon the viewer. Even some of the more nuanced aspects of the trope are illustrated; Fluttershy's angry eyebrows combined with the dragon's wide-eyed shock indicate that she's intimidating him, not vice versa.

I feel inclined to disagree about the Lost image, but I'm not going to argue for change back unless whoever put that there shows up to do so. I'll just say that, at least with the caption, it worked for me without my knowing Lost. Well, aside from the part that the monster has to actually be intimidated (which wasn't evident elsewhere on the page either, I just figured from the YKTTW discussion that was probably intended and added it), it doesn't show that, that's true

I dunno...the new pic still doesn't seem quite right to me. It's not immediately obvious from the context (especially given the ultra-cartoony art style) that the dragon is supposed to be a bad guy or even a threat. It's facial expression is more of what you'd expect from a Gentle Giant than a Big Bad.

If I may make a suggestion, how about using the Captain America vs Thanos staredown (unless we've already used it for a different page)? It'd be perfect:

http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-captain-america-book-moments.php (#5 on the list)

Smoldering ruins all around establishing the threat, and it's pretty damn obvious that dude is a bad guy even if you know nothing about the comics.

On the other hand, Fluttershy successfully did it; while Captain America clearly attempted it, it wasn't a true example of the trope as Adam Warlock's plan to steal the gauntlet failed and Thanos promptly made himself even more powerful as opposed to being defeated.

On the other hand, I object to it based on the fact that I'm sick of seeing those ponies every-goddamn-where.

On the third hand, if you have a suggestion that is better than the Fluttershy image, in that it better represents the meaning of the trope, why don't you tell us what it is?

This needs a rewrite. It needs to clearly state what it means, before or after the colourful example if we're keeping that.

What's this trope about? Is it about a hero defeating an Eldritch Abomination by staring it down, or recruiting it as an ally by the same technique, or becoming coolly Brainwashed and Crazy by exposure to its glare? The description is confusing.

Staring it down. Possible style problem there.

Edit: Oh, never mind, I saw the YKTTW. I didn't even know what this meant.

The article says that this is "Often the cause of a Face–Heel Turn". Really? Then why is this not a cause of a Face–Heel Turn in any of the four examples listed on the page?
