Thor The Dark World - Dark Elves' ships? (I assume those spike-things were their ships.. It never seemed to make that clear *what* they were.)

Uses of Spikes Usually spikes are treated as decorative costumery, but historically bikers wear spikes because by skidding on the road they provide protection from road rash. In The Messenger Gil deRais (Bluebeard) uses his spiked armor as a weapon.
