Can we alter the title of this trope? Besides being "controversial" (if you have any patience for that sort of discourse on the q slur), queer is supposedly an umbrella term. This trope is largely about same-sex attraction. Moreover, LGBT is the term used throughout the page.

This needs a new name. A lot of people have "reclaimed" the Q-slur, but it's still very offensive to most people and is still freely used by homophobes.

There are plenty of tropes with queer in their name, just take a look at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QueerAsTropes I think most people are adult enough not to throw it around as a slur on this wiki.

If you think that it still warrants a rename you can go to the TLP Crash Rescue where these kinds of issues with new tropes are sometimes raised, they might point you to the Trope Repair Shop, but that's usually for well-established tropes.

Courtesy link: Queer as Tropes.

The norm is to use the word "queer."

You link those as if implying that they are okay, they are not and i have posted on those as well. All tropes with the q slur in them need new names.

It is not being used as a slur. It's a word long since reclaimed by my community, for my community. It's also long-established in literary theory and media criticism which makes it appropriate for a media tropes site. Calling it the "q slur" was pushed by transphobes who reject using this inclusive word and now they've got a younger generation hating it.

We're here. We're queer. We're troping it and using the established language for it.

^^ If you want some wide-spread bowdlerization of the wiki then this is not the correct place to bring that up.

I don't WANT to be queer, It is a horrible thing to call someone and i object to being put under an umbrella with that term.

You do not have to embrace it for yourself, but it is a shame that assholes have ruined this word for you by misusing it in a derogatory way.

However, the neutral-to-positive use of queer on TV Tropes isn't going to get addressed through a discussion here, and changing it on TV Tropes won't change it for the world at large.

See prior ATT about it:
