Is this about specific games with a reputation for having players who ignore the plot, or the idea that gamers simply don't care about the story of a game? The former seems like it would make more sense, but some of the examples (and several of the quotes and lines in the introduction) seem to take the position of "no, really, nobody cares", as if that were actually something endemic to video-game players.
