I always found it kind of funny that weapons like gatling guns and modern miniguns actually use the multiple barrel firing system to avert this trope, yet in games the Minigun is usually the primary victim of overheating mechanics. From a balancing perspective it is understandable, since miniguns are bullet hoses that chew through ammo reserves: A player would be disappointed after using it all up after a short period of time.
